Tennis champion Madison Keys has found a new passion away from the court: interior design. The American star recently opened the doors to her renovated Florida home, revealing how the ambitious project became a creative outlet and even prompted her to seek advice from fans.
Keys and her husband, former professional tennis player and current coach Bjorn Fratangelo, bought the property in Orlando, Florida, in 2022. The roughly 2,700-square-foot residence includes a Spanish-style casita dating to the 1930s alongside a later addition.
However, the two sections did not initially feel like one cohesive home. Therefore, Keys began a substantial renovation aimed at preserving the property’s personality while creating a more unified living space.
Madison Keys Wanted a Home With Character
Before purchasing the property, Keys had lived in a more conventional suburban home. This time, she wanted something with history and distinctive architectural details.
The older Spanish-style portion immediately offered that character. Still, combining it successfully with the newer section presented a design challenge.
Keys eventually worked with Orlando-based design firm Concrete to Cotton on the renovation. Together, they sought to connect the different parts of the house without stripping away the features that made the property unique.
The project also became much larger than initially expected. In a 2024 WTA interview, Keys joked about regularly contacting her general contractor as she waited for cabinets, bathrooms, and other elements to be completed.
Fans Helped Madison Keys Make Design Decisions
Interestingly, Keys did not keep every renovation decision private. Her enthusiasm for interiors led her to share parts of the process online.
At times, she turned to her social media followers for opinions and advice. That interaction allowed fans to become involved in a very different side of her life from professional tennis.
Moreover, Keys was deeply involved in choosing the home’s aesthetic. The finished interiors combine playful colors, traditional architectural details, and more personal decorative touches.
One standout feature is a gold tiger-print banquette in the dining area. Meanwhile, the redesigned kitchen incorporates arches and custom cabinetry that complement the Spanish-inspired character of the house.
Renovation Uncovered Another Creative Passion
The project eventually encouraged Keys to explore creativity beyond decorating. During the process, she discovered an interest in painting.
One of her own artworks now hangs prominently in the living room. As a result, the house contains not only professionally selected furnishings but also something Keys created herself.
Her interest in interiors has continued even after the main renovation. Following her 2025 Australian Open victory, Keys said she enjoyed creating Pinterest mood boards for imaginary future properties.
She also joked that some of her Australian Open prize money would fund a second phase of improvements to the house.
Home Offers an Escape From Life on Tour
For Keys, the finished Florida property carries additional meaning because professional tennis requires extensive travel.
The American has spent much of her life moving between tournaments. She relocated to Florida as a child to pursue tennis seriously and train at the Evert Tennis Academy.
Consequently, having a comfortable home base has become increasingly valuable.
The renovation also reflects Keys’ desire to maintain interests beyond professional competition. She has previously emphasized the importance of becoming a happy and well-rounded person rather than allowing tennis to define every part of her life.
Her restored Orlando residence now embodies that philosophy. While Madison Keys’ Florida home preserves its Spanish-inspired roots, its colorful interiors also reflect the personality and creativity she has developed away from the tennis court.
